P2P

With the development of the World Wide Web and the accessibility of the internet allowed for individuals to not only share ideas and information but digital store material such as music, movies, documents, photos and games between people in the web. File sharing is exactly what its name say’s, its share files! You are sharing or offering access to files. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing is one of the methods for file sharing. In P2P file sharing you are allowing users to directly access, download and edit files. In the article “The BitTorent effect” by Clive Thompson, we get the full insight of BitTorrent and its creator Bram Cohen. BitTorrent has become one of the most successful P2P programs ever according to the article. Although P2P allows the sharing of files, BitTorrent brings a bit of a twist while using P2P and lets users quickly upload and download enormous amounts of data, files that are hundreds or thousands of times bigger than a single MP3 file. The code that Bram Cohen developed was absolutely genius, and although it’s a great and revolutionary idea it’s hated by the media industry. With the creation of BitTorrent a lot of illegal traffic followed, such as the download of movies, TV series, and albums to name a few. File sharing is one of those revolutionary ideas that came along with the World Wide Web but it has created a great problem for artist and production companies with their content being shared for free.
